I’m Naveed Jamali and for Three Years I Worked Undercover Against Russian Intelligence.
For three nerve-wracking years, Naveed Jamali spied on America for the Russians, trading cash for thumb-drives of sensitive technical data, selling out his own beloved country across noisy restaurant tables and in quiet parking lots. Or so the Russians believed. In fact, he was a secret double agent working closely with the FBI. Even though the USSR was no more, for Russia the Cold War had never ended and the United States was their main enemy.
“The double agent operation is one of the most demanding and complex counterintelligence activities in which an intelligence service can engage.”
- Central Intelligence Agency
By the time the operation was finished, Jamali and his handlers had cast a bright light on Russian espionage operating out of the Russian Mission to the United Nations in New York. They had earned a solid U.S. win in the escalating hostilities between Moscow and Washington. And they had helped to disprove, for anyone who had any doubts, the supposedly benign intentions of Russia’s post-Cold War leaders, Vladimir Putin especially, who kept telling America how much they wanted to be our partners and our friends.
Former Double Agent, Current Triple Threat…
After getting to play the role of a real life James Bond, Naveed accepted a commission in the U.S. Navy as a reserve intelligence where he served with the Office of Naval Intelligence and the Defense Innovation Unit. He went on to become an MSNBC Intelligence Analyst, a Senior Fellow in the Program on National Security at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a special contributor for the Military Times and a reoccurring guest on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. He has briefed the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) on Russian intelligence collection tactics and is currently advising a 2020 Presidential candidate on national security and intelligence matters.
He has no intention of travelling to Russia anytime soon.
